Scottish Siberian Husky Club Rally Championship 2006-2007
Ae Forest Rally Dumfries & Galloway
14th and 15th Oct 2006
The first two day rallies of the seasons Championship got underway at the Ae Forest held by the Scottish Siberian Husky Club on the 14/15th October 06 with over 60 entries. The worrying aspect as always at the start of the season is the weather conditions, with higher and more humid temperatures now being the norm through Aug and Sept, it’s difficult to start up training and get any distance into the dogs. For most entrants it was used as a good training run within their planned programme.
The distance was kept to below 3 miles for all teams and they each coped within their varying abilities to complete the undulating trail. The surface was good considering the heavy rain falls in the preceding 2/3 weeks. Thankfully, we were fortunate to have a rain free weekend and not much sunshine came through which if it did could have pushed up the temperatures.
Temperatures on the trail on the Sat were between 10 & 13deg and slightly cooler on the Sunday at between 9 & 12 deg.
The juniors enjoyed the trail laid out for them which gave them a bit of a challenge and we would like to hear more from them on what you would prefer.
A new camping venture negotiated by Steven Lindsay through the Barony College went ahead over the weekend, all was reported to have gone well and was very busy with hungry mushers partaking of a 2 course dinner which was very reasonable priced. A bar was available for those that wanted some refreshments!!!!!!and a fun quiz to enter which got the brain cells thinking…..a very pleasant social gathering which everyone enjoyed.
The camping was on hard concrete so no worrying about being stuck and the shower and toilet facilities were opened from the Friday by Mellissa who was a great help in sorting the site for the campers, and also an excellent start timer for every class over the weekend, even making sure the snubbers were there on time!
As always, but never taken for granted is a really big thank you to everyone who willingly helped out over the weekend without any cajoling or being chased up, which organisers just don’t have time to do, it’s very much appreciated and one less headache to be concerned about….thank-you.
To the committee for being on hand to do what was needed and the catering van which was new but had good reviews and was well supported by everyone (thank you for that)
